Speak Asia's Bank accounts Frozen in India & Singapore



Market research company Speak Asia has stopped payouts to its vendors, clients and staff. In a letter to its members, Speak Asia says payments cannot be processed since its bank accounts in Singapore have been frozen.
CNN-IBN had first reported how the market research agency is under the scanner for allegedly misleading subscribers.
The Ministry of Company Affairs has ordered a probe into the company and its practices.
Speak Asia has said it will approach the Supreme Court against the action.

eBay, PayPal sue Google over trade secrets | Google vs Ebay Paypal


28th May 2011
NEW YORK: eBay and its online payment unit PayPal Inc filed suit against Google Inc and two executives for trade secret misappropriation related to mobile payment systems.

The two executives, Osama Bedier and Stephanie Tilenius, were formerly with PayPal, and led the launch of Google's own mobile payment system.

The suit said Bedier worked for nine years at PayPal, most recently serving as vice president of platform, mobile and new ventures. He joined Google on January 24. Tilenius was at eBay from 2001 to October 2009 and served as a consultant to the company until March 2010.

The suit says Tilenius joined Google in February, 2010 as vice president of e-commerce. Bedier is accused in the suit of having "misappropriated PayPal trade secrets by disclosing them within Google and to major retailers".

Sony may resume U.S.-based online games on Tuesday

TOKYO (Reuters) – Sony Corp is considering resuming its U.S.-based online games service on Tuesday, following a massive security breach last month, Kyodo news agency said on Friday.
The consumer electronics giant was forced to close down its PlayStation games network and its PC-based online gaming network after discovering that hackers had accessed personal details on more than 100 million user accounts last month.

Microsoft Buys Skype for $8.5 Billion. Why, Exactly?


Just days after reports that Google and Facebook were interested in partnering with, and possibly buying VoIP company Skype, Microsoft announced that it was buying the company for $8.56 billion in cash.
Last year, Skype had revenue of $860 million on which it posted an operating profit of $264 million. However, overall it made a small loss of $7 million, and had long-term debt of $686 million. This is the second time Skype has been bought out; after being started in 2003, it was purchased by eBay in 2005 for $3.1 billion. EBay then sold the majority of its stake in 2009 to a private investment group for $1.2 billion less than it paid.

SpeakAsia says, "Sorry, we cannot 'disclose' anything" | Speak Asia Press conference Star news

At a specially called ‘damage control’ press conference in Mumbai, SpeakAsia officials refused to divulge any details unless journalists sign a non-disclosure agreement with them. The officials also apologised for mentioning the names of ICICI Bank, Bata, Nestle and Bharti Airtel as their clients 

SpeakAsia (SpeakAsiaonline.com), the online survey company engaged in multi-level marketing (MLM) to spread its network across the country, on Monday said that it could not disclose specific information regarding its business. The company's top officials told a press conference in Mumbai, the first time the company has called such a media meet, that unless the journalists present sign a non-disclosure agreement with them, SpeakAsia could not divulge details like the names of its clients and financials. Manoj Kumar, the company's chief executive for India, apologised for naming ICICI Bank, Bata, Nestle, Bharti Airtel and ING Vyasa Bank as SpeakAsia's clients. "Taking the names of these organisations was a factual error on the part of our chief marketing officer Vivek Gautam and I apologise on behalf of SpeakAsia," Mr Kumar said. He, however, said that during the initial period of operations, SpeakAsia had worked on these brands, although the service was not commissioned by these institutions.

Petrol price up by Rs 5 per litre | Petrol Prices Rise





New Delhi, May 14 (PTI)
In the biggest ever price increase of the fuel, state-owned oil companies today hiked petrol price by Rs 5 per litre with effect from midnight tonight.(May-14-2011)

The steep hike in petrol price is likely to be followed by a Rs 4 per litre increase in diesel rates and Rs 20-25 per cylinder increase in domestic LPG price later this month.

Petrol in Delhi will cost Rs 63.37 per litre at Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) outlets in the national capital from tomorrow as against Rs 58.37 a litre currently, an official said here.
Even after today's hike, oil companies will continue to lose Rs 5.50 per litre and another increase in price is on cards soon, he said.
